What is VIP?

Variable Information Printing (VIP) – sometimes called Variable Data Printing (VDP) – is a form of digital printing which enables the “customisation” of a blank or generic label stock in a single print run. In other words, variations on the “standard” label can be created during the printing process. These variations can involve the text, images and/or graphics. VIP is ideal for labelling applications where variations in price, weight and/or shelf life exist.

The key advantage of VIP is that the printing process doesn’t have to stop or slow down when it performs the various customisation tasks – saving time and reducing wastage. Consequently, VIP is ideal for short “bespoke” print label runs and bulk Print on Demand (POD) jobs.

Given the ongoing evolution of computer software and database technology, VIP will continue to play an important role in the overall supply chain management process.
